Quote of the Day:

“We’re going to have the best-educated American people in the world.” – Dan Quayle

How much can you really connect with somebody online without talking to them in person? It’s a question about as old as instant messaging is, and for the first time I find myself truly asking it. Amanda, the girl I met through this site a couple days ago (gosh I LOVE Xanga), is really nice and sweet, and she has a pic on her site in which she seems to be pretty cute. She’s a Republican Christian who is interested in tall guys and has self-esteem issues. Sound familiar? Oh yeah, I’m a tall Republican Christian with self-esteem issues. (She lives in Maryland, but I am ignoring that for purposes of this discussion.) But anyway, it’s a legitimate question of how much you can connect with someone online. It really just depends on how honest you are with the other person, I suppose.

My Sunday, my Sunday…well it has been hideously boring…but that is perfectly ok, because Sunday is the one day of the week that I do not mind at all if it is boring. My family went out to lunch at McDonald’s then they all went home, and ever since then I have pretty much been lazing around watching football. My Panthers will probably lose again to drop to 1-6…why are they so bad?

Anyway, it’s been a pretty idyllic day. I talked to Amanda forever, which was really nice…there isn’t much like getting to know a girl for the first time and finding out she is exactly like you, so that was quite enjoyable. I am pretty much done for the night…NFL PrimeTime and Desperate Housewives await my eyes, and homework awaits my brain, but not a lot of it, I can reel it off in like 10 minutes. Catch you all tomorrow. 2 days till election!!!

I had a really great Saturday!!! First, my mom and sibs came down and brought Styx and Journey for my room, because we needed some 80’s music! And that’s really cool. Then we walked around some, bought T-shirts and stuff, and went to the game, which was AWESOME! Our Cardinals could have easily folded when they were losing 21-3 to Northern Illinois, who is unbeaten in the conference, but they just would not quit! They sent the game to OT! They ended up losing 38-31, but it was a really friggin awesome game! I want to congratulate all you guys on a great game, especially Adell Givens, our running back, Dante Ridgeway, our great wideout (semifinalist for WR of the year), and Joey Lynch, the quarterback, for showing AWESOME composure! Way to go, Joey! You definitely have your job back in my book!!! And after the game some of the NIU fans congratulated us on being great fans and for the great game, and I thought that kicked so much ass! Kudos to the NIU fans for being great sports!

After all that, my dad came by and we cleaned up our room, it really needed it. He gave me a couple things to use. And he also said I can designate him to vote for me on Tuesday…so maybe my vote for Dubya can be thrown in there! Haha!

It’s a great Saturday!!! I haven’t had a day this good in a while! And it’s all capped off by talking to Liz, who even though she has a boyfriend, I can dream, can’t I? Anyway, that was my awesome Saturday! See you all later!!!

I swear, this is the last entry of the day!!! I am trying not to overload you guys with too much information at once, but lately I seem to have a lot to talk about!

Well, we have entered a new era in Andy Land. I am now regularly in contact with not one, but TWO cute, nice girls. Yes, Liz IM’d me back. Unprecedented territory! High fives to me! This is a new record, as when I was talking to Kristen in HS, it was not regular, and I was not talking to Michelle regularly either. So, I am pretty proud of myself. (Of course, the Other Shoe is that both of the cute girls I am in contact with have boyfriends who they love a whole bunch. There’s always a catch.)

I have my fantasy basketball draft tonight at 8:30. I have been playing fantasy sports since 2001, and I have yet to claim victory in any league. This feels like the year it changes.

I lost my Republican hat. Left it at the bowling alley and it is gone. Only a five buck hat but it was a special one.

Quote of the Day:
“If we do the work that we will do when John Kerry becomes President, people like Christopher Reeve will get up out of that wheelchair and walk again.”
– John Edwards not exaggerating at all

(Note: In the future, I may be able to establish a sidebar Quote of the Day, so you don’t have to wait for my posts to get to it. Maybe. Wait and see…)

This weekend is Family Weekend at BSU…so my family among many others is coming down.

Talked to Allie last night and she said she did not have any school spirit, and never have. I can understand, having known her for a while, but I can’t figure why people could have absolutely no school spirit. Is it that impossible to support your school somehow? I guess, as a person who has school spirit, that I just cannot see how people would not care about their school. Whatever.

I watched a hilarious rerun of Leno last night, with a Jaywalk All-Star skit…really if you aren’t watching Leno, you should. People say he is not funny, but he is hilarious. What’s better, he is a Republican (he MC’d the Governator’s inauguration ceremony), but he has no problem satirizing Bush. The thing about the lefties who make jokes, like Jon Stewart, is that they try to be even-handed, but inevitably, they end up looking like a liberal…usually by making jokes about “bad” Bush policies, while only making Kerry jokes in terms of his looks or flip-floppage. But Leno jokes about job loss under Bush and other stuff, while also making fun of Kerry’s flip flopping and his policy ideas. He is probably the only true balanced talk show host out there…the closest thing is probably Conan, and I am totally PSYCHED that he is going to be in the Tonight Show in 2009.

Haha, now I can take credit for a whole crapload more people being in the PHS blogring. I left a comment for Cecile wondering if she had gotten my app to be in it, and today there are like 15 new members. You guys can thank me for that…haha.

Only four days until the election…once it is over I am going to take this background down, it seems pretty hard to read stuff on it.

NFL Picks — Week 8

Last week: 6-8 Season: 45-54-3

I really need to get some picks right here if I want to finish above .500…so here we go.

Arizona (+3) over BUFFFALO

As much as I hate Emmitt Smith, it’s pretty cool that he’s having a
resurgence this year. No one playing fantasy is touching him with a
ten-foot pole…but he is in a resurgence. Did I mention that the Bills
can’t beat a team at all lately?

WASHINGTON (+2) over Green Bay

Conventional wisdom says go with Green Bay, but I need to detail a theory to you.

The theory is that the Washington Redskins can determine the outcome
of the presidential election. In every election that the Redskins have
been a franchise…if the Redskins have won their final game before the
election, the incumbent party has maintained the White House. If the
Skins have lost, the other party has taken control.

So obviously, if the Skins win, Bush will win the election. Ergo, I must pick them.

Detroit (+3) over DALLAS

I honestly have no idea how to pick the Lions right now, but since
they are 3-0 on the road this season, I will go with them. They’ve been
doing the opposite of what I think all season, but I think I got them
pegged now!

Jacksonville (+1) over HOUSTON

The Jags might be the only team in the NFL that actually makes you
look at the line before you pick the game. This line is basically
nothing, so I’m going with the smoking-hot Jags.

Cincinnati (+3) over TENNESSEE

My Upset Pick of the Week. Their victory over denver may have just
been a typical Trap Game loss for the Broncs, but I think it is the
start of a trend for the Bengals.

Indianapolis (-1) over KANSAS CITY

Both teams need this game…the Colts to keep from falling almost
hopelessly behind Jacksonville…the Chiefs to leap back into the
playoff chase. I think the Colts’ want is going to be just a little
more. Am I worried about the Chiefs opening up another can of whoop ass
like they did last week? You bet.

MINNESOTA (-7) over NY Giants

No stopping the Vikes right now. I’d like to thank Detroit for
making this pick a lot easier to make by beating New York last week.

PHILADELPHIA (-7.5) over Baltimore

Whenever T.O. has a score to settle, he always seems to explode in
that game. He’s going to do it again this week with Baltimore…even if
the last two “scores” (with Garcia and the Panthers respectively) were
kind of a reach in terms of T.O. motivating himself.

SEATTLE (-8) over Carolina

I give. Smith and Foster both on IR, joining Jenkins and Pittman?
This team could not be more in shambles right now. Seattle may be
struggling, but Carolina is playing the Ball State to their Purdue.

DENVER (-7) over Atlanta

I had the Falcons picked, then remembered that the Bengals game was
a Trap Game. They’ll pick right back up this week, playing a team that
matters a little more and who struggled mightily last week.

New England (-3) over PITTSBURGH

You heard me a couple weeks ago. The Pats are going unbeaten now. No question.

SAN DIEGO (-6) over Oakland

With the Chargers in contention, there’s nothing quite like hearing
Berman & TJ doing their “San Diego…Super-Chargers!” bit on NFL
PrimeTime (which is an awesome show, watch it).

San Francisco (+1.5) over CHICAGO

THIS IS THE SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL GAME THIS WEEK???!!! WHAT WAS THE SECOND CHOICE, FURMAN VS GEORGIA SOUTHERN????

(Climbing off my soapbox…)

With the Bears switching to Krenzel at QB, they may prove my “no more wins” guarantee wrong…but I am not betting on it.

NY JETS (-7) over Miami

This is the worst prime time football schedule in many many years.
Where did they get this crazy idea, anyway??? The Jets are underrated
in my opinion. They played the Pats as tough as anyone but Carolina has
during The Streak, and I think they will surprise some people this year.

Quote of the Day:
“I’m happy to announce that we have passed legislation outlawing Russia. We begin bombing in five minutes.”  – Ronald Reagan doing a mike test…everyone heard him

To my three subscribers …Obviously, this is not a normal blog. I often post multiple entries in one day, rather than one entry every day or two, like most. So that’s fair warning…

The Best Things About My 18th Birthday: (I will update this throughout the day in chronological order)

1. Michelle left me a colorful happy birthday message this morning. She’s just the sweetest person in the entire world, period, without question. There is no argument.

2. Eric gave me a card. A cool one that smacked of gay jokes…but then a lot of Eric is gay jokes haha.

3. Molly reminded me that I don’t have to see my dad anymore…but I still will be seeing him, for a lot of reasons.

4. Bobby dropped in just to say hi and happy birthday…that’s how college should be…just people dropping in to your room for no reason…unfortunately, we only have a couple people on our floor who actually do that.

5. Michelle sent me an eCard through Yahoo, saying I was a special friend and she would never trade knowing me for anything. Now seriously…is she TRYING to get me to just tell her that I would do anything to get her to love me??? Surely no one is that sweet normally, right???

6. My mom called me and her and all my sibs wished me happy birthday. Eric’s gf did too, but obviously that’s not as important.

7. Bowling with Bobby and Eric.

8. Eric picking up my tab (ok, well he kicked my ass, so maybe I deserved it, haha).

9. Allie giving me my last “Happy Birthday” greeting of the day.

And that’s my birthday!!! Wait till next year fellas! See you later!

How GAY is my CD player??? I have had Simple Plan’s new album for 37 hours! Already, track 2, Welcome to My Life, only you know MY FAVORITE SONG ON THE DAMN ALBUM, is skipping around and acting stupid. Why does this continue to happen? It can’t be my CD player, because other CD players I have had also do this. It can’t be my CD case because of the same reason. Maybe it’s just part of the ongoing conspiracy against me that dammit, I WILL find out about. Lousy way to start being 18.
